AI calling for hospitals means an AI voice assistant answers and makes the hospital's routine phone calls — OPD timings, bookings, arrival confirmations, review reminders and discharge follow-ups — in the language the patient speaks. With MySA Business it calls from the hospital's own number, works only from the details the hospital approved, and hands anything clinical to a person. It gives no medical advice and never reads or explains reports. Everything below is front-desk work.
Why a hospital's phone is harder than a clinic's
A neighbourhood clinic hears mostly local callers. A large hospital in a medical hub hears families from other districts and other states, often travelling for a long course of treatment. Large teaching hospitals in Vellore, for example, see many patients from West Bengal and the North-East; West Bengal's own health scheme lists a Vellore hospital among the speciality hospitals it covers outside the state.
So a front desk in a Tamil-speaking town takes calls in Bengali, Hindi and Assamese, and the family in Dibrugarh calls at 10 pm because that is when they plan the trip. If nobody understands them, or nobody picks up, they keep calling.
Where hospital calling is busiest, and in which language
Cities where healthcare is a large part of local business, by region, with the call languages a hospital there would likely choose. Patients from outside the state may need another.
| Region | Cities | Likely call languages |
|---|---|---|
| Tamil Nadu | Vellore, Madurai | Tamil, plus Hindi, Bengali, Assamese for patients from the North and East |
| Kerala | Kochi, Kozhikode, Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam, Thrissur | Malayalam, English, Tamil |
| Coastal Karnataka | Mangaluru, Udupi | Kannada, Malayalam, English |
| Telangana and Andhra Pradesh | Hyderabad, Karimnagar, Vijayawada, Kurnool | Telugu, Urdu, Hindi |
| Bihar and Jharkhand | Patna, Darbhanga, Ranchi | Hindi, Hinglish |
| Odisha | Bhubaneswar, Cuttack | Odia, Hindi |
| North-East | Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Silchar | Assamese, Bengali, Hindi |
| North and Central India | Delhi, Chandigarh, Mohali, Rohtak, Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, Bhopal, Dehradun, Haldwani, Jammu | Hindi, Hinglish, Punjabi, Urdu |
On an inbound number, leave Stick to the chosen language off and the AI follows whichever of its languages the caller uses. On an outbound list, a language column sets each patient's own language. Hear each one on a test call before relying on it.
Use case 1: "Is the doctor sitting today?" at any hour
Most calls to a hospital are about the timetable, not illness: which days a consultant sits in OPD, the fee, where to register, whether Sunday is open. Write these in your approved Business Details and switch on inbound calls for the hospital's number. The AI answers day and night, unless you block inbound during your DND hours.
With Appointments set up — each doctor a named seat, each consultation a service with its length and fee — the AI checks free times and books during the same call. The patient's number is taken from the call, and they get a WhatsApp confirmation with the date, time, address and map location. The doctor's diary article covers the calendar in detail.
Example — a family from Bihar calls a hospital in South India at night. ABC Hospital is made up.
- Caller: Hello, kal Dr. Rao OPD mein baithenge kya? Hum Patna se aa rahe hain.
- AI: Namaste. Dr. Rao Monday, Wednesday aur Friday subah 9 se 1 baje tak OPD mein hote hain. Kal Tuesday hai, to kal OPD nahi hai. Aap kab tak pahunchenge?
- Caller: Monday subah tak.
- AI: Monday 10:30 ka slot khali hai. Mareez ke naam se book kar doon?
- Caller: Haan, Sunita Devi ke naam se.
- AI: Ho gaya. Confirmation WhatsApp par aa jayega, usme address aur map bhi hoga.
The hospital sees the booking on the calendar with the robot icon, and in Call Logs a recording, an AI summary ("travelling from Patna, OPD booked Monday 10:30"), the sentiment and your tags. One honest limit: the AI knows only the timetable you wrote. If a doctor is on leave tomorrow, update the Business Details, or the AI will still say they are sitting.
Use case 2: confirming out-of-town arrivals
A patient travelling two days by train needs a different call from a local one. A few days before the appointment, a campaign rings each out-of-town patient in their own language with their row's details: the date, the time, the registration counter, and what the hospital's instructions say to bring (old reports, referral letter, ID). The AI reads out the checklist; it does not read the reports.
| destination | customer_name | language | var1 | var2 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 98xxxxxx12 | Sunita Devi | hindi | Monday 10:30 | Counter 4 |
| 97xxxxxx40 | Pranab Das | bengali | Tuesday 9:00 | Counter 2 |
If a patient asks to move the date, the AI moves their own booking. If they say "Monday subah registration ke liye aa jayenge", a visit reminder can call that day to check they are still coming. If your hospital software can send contacts out, an API campaign takes each new booking without a spreadsheet.
Use case 3: OPD review reminders and discharge follow-up calls
Review visits are where patients drift away. A Scheduled campaign with On dates I pick rings the list again before each review date, and the Appointments WhatsApp reminder goes three hours before the slot by default. The reminder calls article compares the call with the message.
A discharge follow-up call should be narrow. The AI asks only front-desk questions: did the patient reach home, do they have the review date, would they like someone from the hospital to call. It does not ask about symptoms. Write the purpose so that any health concern ends the AI's part: with call transfer it rings the number you named, say "Nursing desk", briefs your colleague and connects the patient. Without transfer, the request lands in Follow-ups as Call from a person, which MySA never dials itself.
Use case 4: health check-up package enquiries
Callers ask what a package includes, the price and when to come. Put each package's inclusions and price in Business Details; the AI answers from them and books the package as a service in Appointments. If a caller asks which package suits their condition, the AI does not choose; it offers the check-up desk.
| Patient says | AI does |
|---|---|
| "Doctor kal baithenge?" | Reads the OPD days, offers a free slot |
| "Appointment Thursday kar do" | Moves their own booking, asks why in one question |
| "Report normal hai kya?" | Does not read reports; transfers to the desk you named |
| "Mujhe chakkar aa rahe hain" | Gives no advice; transfers, or gives the emergency number you wrote down |
| "Full body check-up kitne ka hai?" | Quotes the approved price, offers a slot |
| "Kal shaam call karna" | Sets a follow-up for then, in the same language |
Saathi on the hospital website
Saathi puts an AI video agent, MySA, on the hospital's own website. A visitor taps the call bubble and asks "heart check-up ₹5,000 ke andar hai?"; it answers from the same Business Details, opens the package page and points at the price. It speaks Hinglish, Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada or Malayalam (not Odia or Assamese), and its instructions should also bar symptoms and reports. Calls appear under Saathi → Video calls with a summary.
What works today, and what it does not do
These are scenarios, not customer stories.
| Works today | Does not do |
|---|---|
| Inbound answering 24/7 in the caller's language | Give medical advice, suggest medicines or triage |
| OPD bookings in MySA's Appointments calendar | Read, fetch or explain reports and scans |
| A call language per patient from the list | Sync with hospital software (a Google Sheet copy is possible) |
| Transfer to named desks with a spoken briefing | Know a doctor's leave you did not write down |
| Recording, AI summary, sentiment and tags | Keep turn-by-turn transcripts |
